Cinqueterre
It all began to make sense when we arrived at Cinqueterre. Cinque should have been my first clue…5 little towns. For this trip we decided to go with a group called Florence for Fun…I don’t know if you remember them from our trip to Amalfi. Remiggio was our guide and I must say one of the funniest young gentlemen I have met in some time. The best line was on our train ride back he leans over to us and says “I wonder who is watching hell when this female inspector comes on at the Tuscany boarder”. He proceeded to share with us his experience of how mean this inspector was. The funny thing was …. She did not come near us nor ask for our tickets so we had to take his word for it.
Cinqueterre by far has to be one of my favourite places on earth. The ruggedness and beauty of the sea creates an awe that would inspire any artist. We walked from the first town to the fourth. As we reached the 3rd town I laughed when we were told that there were 385 stairs to climb…and he was not kidding. The trek from the 3rd to the 4th was mostly uphill except for the last ¼ of the trek. This was very grueling…..so much so that most of our team would rather stop at the 4th town and have a beer than trek on to town #5. So that is what we did….stop for beer and what a refreshing break. From there we took a ferry boat to the last town just in time to catch the train back to Florence. If you venture to Italy….a trip to Cinqueterre is recommended.
