HAPPY FRIDAY

Buon giorno to you!

Well Friday fast approached us this week and I am reeling with excitement.
I began sculpting classes and am taking private painting classes.  As much as I love to draw and do Bargues....I feel it is now time to take full advantage of what the city of Florence has to offer in terms of art instruction.

I had forgotten my camera for the the first sculpting class, however my teacher took pics of the armature I created...or should I say we created.  As I began to lay on the  clay to the structure I knew at that moment I was where I needed to be in my evolution as an artist.  As Wednesday was a holiday I  have patiently waited for today to see what we will be doing.  On Mondays my teacher brings in a live model so it is wonderful just having the 3 of us there with no interruption.  Stay tuned for more stories and information about sculpture.

At the same time I decided to find a studio where I could engage in still life painting.  I found a great one.  The teachers are fantastic and so knowledgeable and can stretch a canvas in less than five minutes.  Last night was my first attempt at mixing paint...it was as if I had never mixed paint before....but as the night progressed I became more comfortable and was happy with the outcome.  I created a small painting of what my larger one will look like.  There was a Russian artist by the name of Repin who taught his students to paint small before big....when he would do landscapes he would go out and draw the landscape on a box of matches.  I understand the value now of a quick study...although mine took me all evening and then still could do another hour...which I will because I could easily frame it.  So I am attaching a pic of my charcoal sketch of the composition of my still life.  I have taken out the smaller bottle and have added another garlic.
I have ordered some brushes from the UK so am hoping they come in this week.  I was having an interesting time with what I brought with me.  So much to learn.
Enjoy your weekend and we'll see you soon.  Ciao!
