A hectic week and tomorrow it's Friday!!

Buona sera mi amici.

Well today I learned something quite fascinating.  After class today my teacher was taking another colleague and I to watch an elderly painter from New York who was painting a 20ft canvas in black and white just outside of the Belle Arte school in Piazza San Marco.  On the way there was a school with large banners with Italian writing and something like Occupato.  My teacher explained that the students have gone on strike and have taken over the school.  Sounded pretty radical to me.  Anyhow he says that sometimes they are out of school for months at a time.

Today I was working on a collaborative project...horses' head.  My part was the mane of the horse and to smooth areas that needed a smooth finish.  We created a silicone mold and hopefully tomorrow will add a layer of plaster.  What I learned was that when an artist is secure with the knowledge of anatomy...sculpting from a drawing is possible.  I was excited about this notion and the horse proved my theory.  After all isn't that how all the great masters did it...imagine a horse standing still in the same position for that long...or a human for that matter.  Sculpting full time now and loving every minute.
Buona notte!
