Buona sera mi amici
Well it is back to the routine of Italian living as my friends depart for Orvieto and then Rome and then home, back to Canada where I heard Sudbury got snow on the weekend. I had a splendid time and enjoyed every second with my dear friends. Last night we laughed at the innocence of my inner child as we indulged in chocolate I purchased in a supermarket in Siena yesterday. I thought I would treat them to a little 50 percent cacao as we had overdosed the previous night from delights from the pasticceria. As we finished our dinner, and after many glasses of fantastic wine...I pulled out my little chocolate surprise. My friend grabbed the cardboard wrapper and began to read the ingredients wondering how natural this beautifully packaged chocolate was. As she read the first line...sugar free we began to wonder...and of course I was stuffing my face with a couple of pieces marvelling at its waxy texture. Then she read...high in fibre and began laughing hysterically....as she read on she named words I have not heard of before that had twenty letters and difficult to pronounce. All of a sudden we both looked at each other....after I had eaten four pieces and not really enjoying it as it had an unusual after taste...and broke out into bellows of laughter. I was eating the Italian equivalent to our one and only EXLAX! So remember...you take a risk when you buy Italian chocolate that says 'sensa zuccherro'.
