Day in Cortona..."under the tuscan sun"

Buon giorno mi amici

Well I have finally succeeded in finding the little quaint town of Cortona and found a house there that I love.  Firstly...the day started with preparing a backpack...lunch, snacks, water and don't forget the camera.  I had bought some Italian sunscreen...the sun has been wonderful these past couple of days.  I had figured that since the tube had the word 'bambino' on it I should be reactive free. I poured a generous amount in my left hand and as I rubbed my hands together I got this sense that it was rather white and too thick for sunscreen.  I proceeded to lather it all over my face.  As I looked in the mirror I was in shock!  I looked like a mime.  You know that zinc you can buy that takes forever to get off of your nose...well it felt like I had zinc all over my face.  Took a while to remove it and thank goodness for blush....took away from the pasty look. :)

Cortona is a very beautiful place.  I now can understand how that author fell in love with it.  It sits high on a mountain and the views are spectacular.  When we arrived at the train station we found the shuttle which runs very irregularly on Sundays.  A pleasant handsome cab driver approached us and for 12 euro for four of us .. another couple who were waiting for a bus...not a bad deal as we had originally planned to walk.  Anyhow at the end of the day...there was the cab driver waving to me from across the Piazza...well the ride down the mountain was 10 euros.  Turns out that he is Serbian and when I started speaking to him in Serbian he was pleasantly surprised.  Enjoy the photos.  Cortona has really delicious gelato and there was an antique market in the main square.  Ciao!
