There is an old tradition known as the burning of the cart which dates back to 1102...I will download some more information as to the origin and it is quite an event for tourists and locals alike. Here are a few pictures I took yesterday. First of all I must confess that where we initially stood there was a small wooden cart that was covered in fresh flowers. I could not imagine this was the cart as people were standing so close and there was no firetruck around..only firemen. Then we decided to run around to the other side of the Duomo as I had a feeling there was more going on over there since the clergy procession came out of the church and walked into that direction. I was right...all the action was happening on the other side. Here are some photos of the event.
