July 17th
This morning the kids and I took a walk to Sorrento’s main square. The city was alive with activity and I was craving a cappuccino. We found a pasticerria that had the most amazing chocolate croissants. I also picked up a ton of fresh fruit and it only cost 1.50 really cheap considering they have to bring in supplies on the island by boat. Or maybe not…just realized that we came here by bus. I think the heat is getting to me.
Off to Positano today by bus. The bus let us off at the top of the hill after an amazing ride up the mountain taking the curves with a beeping horn ; the view was outstanding. My unbounding excitement was reflected in the accidental black and white photos I took along the way. What enhances the beauty of Positano are the colourful buildings nestled in the rock and the rock is majestic incorporating the vibrant colours of fuscia, red and white on the blossoms of the flowering bushes. It is evident that this is a small fishing town speckled with many exquisite yachts anchored in the harbour. We walked down 801 steps to reach the beach. Of course the little princesses in our group complained of the walk and whined about whether we would have to walk back up to catch our bus.
I can totally understand why they chose Positano as a site in the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”. The beauty surpasses anything I have seen in Italy so far. I found 3 galleries and quite a few sculptures. Fortunately, at the end of the day there was a bus to take us back closer to our meeting point. Back to our hotel in Sorrento to endulge in calamari, caprese salad, pizza and lemoncello torte. The Almafi coast grows the largest lemons. The heat here is absolutely incredible. I do not sweat as much in the spa sauna as I do here. I think my body is totally detoxed now. The sun is very intense and shade is a welcome sight.
