When we were done at Pompeii we hopped the bus climbing further up the mountain to Mount Vessuvius. The area was rather depressed and garbage was littered everywhere. At the top there were two small bars that looked like something from the 50s untouched. At first I wasn’t sure if they were operational. As we descended down from the bus a gentle breeze blew and brought out the pungently sweet aroma of the broom bushes that grew yellow fragrant blossoms. I thought at that point that I was going to barf. I held it though….the smell was intoxicating and rather offensive at the same time. The kids went up to the volcano top while I sat and sipped cappuccino on this rather warm and sunny afternoon marveling at how the tour buses manage to manouver in such a tight space as they let busloads of tourists off. It amazes me how some people excite at the opportunity to purchase lava rock.
