Buon sera
I have discovered the largest market in Florence. It is an indoor market with an abundance of specialty items. The prosciuto is amazing. I had asked in Italian for a quantity that sounded like 'sento' when it should have been chento actually spelled cento.....grams....the storekeeper and his helper both looked at us and said in English...madame...you are asking for a thin piece like paper. We all threw our heads back and laughed. Best sliced meat I have had so far. In the Florentine paper today Deirdre Pirro writes "Italy is the second largest producer of high quality organic crops in Europe and the fourth largest in the world." It seems apparent that there are companies and countries that are promoting the genetic modified organisms. Italy has attempted to keep them out but it looks like they have already introduced it in potatoes and corn. Most not for human consumption but I bet they slip it into human food consumption. Now I know why the food tastes so good here...it is mostly all organic and very fresh. For me...I like the St. Ambrosio market as to me the produce looks healthier and fresher. I received a fresh clump of parsley today for free. I think they have seen me many times in the market and now I have become a regular. Stay tuned I have a great recipe for you all. Ciao.
