FIRST SATURDAY MORNING

Woke up too early this morning with thoughts of my Rosetta Stone first lesson.  Will I ever use the phrase “delle donna corrono” which means the women are running.  I think not.  So hear I sit at five am wondering how on earth I let time pass me by with the wasted hours in front of the television when I could be learning how women run in Italian.

This morning I am going to study the map thoroughly as it will be my last attempt to find a Tym phone…I think that is how they spell it.  I was advised by the fellow at the Apple store that the Tym phone is far superior to the vodaphone.  So no more searching for voda…now it is Tym.  I know that once I reach the Duomo then I will be able to find my way to the store called Alberti.  I also found two 99 cent stores which I would imagine are a replica of our dollar stores.  It looked like they might have some interesting things.  I think toilet paper is cheaper there.  I may look for a spare flashlight as I still haven’t figured out how the lights work in the main foyer…I call it a foyer it is about 10X10 and not as clean…needs major paint.  I think a nice fresco would be beautiful.  Speaking of frescos I was on my twentieth lap around the center trying to find my street or at least a street I could recognize.  Another stop to pull out the map and I looked up and there on the corner was a fresco of Virgin Mary and Jesus.  Hallelujah I have arrived for this is the street my school is on.  I almost crossed myself like the Catholics do because I was so happy.

I woke up this morning thinking about taking a bus tour.  I remembered how much fun my sister and I had a couple of years ago exploring this city.  It still seems surreal to me that I am here.  I am actually living here.  Yesterday at the supermarket the girls asked me for my coop card.  I must look like I live here.  I found two laundry mats which was kind of interesting.  For a wash it is 3.50 euro.  I have a washing machine but it is really teenie.  I think the locals use these larger machines to wash their linens and duvets and heavier things.  I can’t imagine, except for the very rich, that they will have large machines in their homes.  I just discovered that I have a toaster oven in my kitchen.  Now I can heat up food without turning my oven on as I still haven’t quite figured out how that works.

Till the next time….arriverderci!
