La buona sera i miei amici.
Thank you for looking into my blog once again. Today was a rather serendipitous day. Remember the story I shared with you earlier about the elderly man stopping in the middle of the street to pick up a penny. See below and it will give you an idea of how small it is. It is the coin on the left. So as I was heading back to the studio after lunch, thinking about this man all morning, I was crossing the first street and looked down and saw a dime. Quickly I picked it up and smiled thinking about my earlier blog. From the left it goes penny, dime,20C, 50C 1euro and 2euro.
I still marvel at how that man saw that penny it is so small.
Last night I found this amazing sculpture store. I will try to go next week and just photograph at lunch what I saw in the window. These were the size of a house. Anyhow all week long all I could think about was Michaelangelo's David. I am definitely going to see him at the L'Accademia very soon. So all week I came upon these little miniature sculptures of David and thought how cute that would look on my desk. This week I met a fellow that I will be having coffee with on Sunday...guess what his name is...David.
The other day I was coming home from school and passed the mechanic next door and nodded my head with 'buona sera' and he mumbled 'sera' and looked at me wondering who is this woman. Tonight I passed him again, only this time I had a full grocery buggy and when I said 'buona sera' he was all smiles. Must be that makeup I was playing with this morning. For those of you who know me well, I don't normally wear makeup...but this morning I thought I would expand my horizons...after all applying makeup is an art form in itself. My female classmate noticed and commented. Oh and remember that picture of the triangular window where the guard stands..although in the picture it was empty...well everyday now when I walk by I nod to whomever is in there...today I was smiling ear to ear and he smiled back. I just love it. My painter friend on the river said good morning to me this morning. I love Italy...people are so friendly. Patch Adams would certainly have a different experience here. I think the 'friendliness factor' is alive in this city. It appears that people here seem to have a high regard for each other. Even in my school...everyone greets everyone and with smiles to boot. I am in my element here. The other day I got an email from a colleague who said "we miss you..no one smiles anymore".
Well you all know what I think about that. Get smiling people. You will see your day transform. Just try it. Here I smile at everyone. Even the dogs. Today I was whipping around a corner with my buggy and almost stepped on a little chiuaha...ooops. Scusi signora. Gee I seem to be saying that alot these days.
Remember in a previous blog I mentioned that I met a gay couple who were so very nice to stop and help me as I was reading my map. Well they were right...Italians do not stop to give you directions when they see you reading a map...and I did not receive any assistance from English speaking either. So their observation is very true to life. I didn't get lost coming home from the big post office today. I am still working on my permisso di son giorno. It will be a celebration when I finally have that completed and mailed.
One last thing before I say buona notte. I went to the laundry mat the other day because I figure I would eventually need to do a heavy load of laundry. It took me 20 minutes to read the instructions...and they were in English. When I go I will take a picture. I stood there all by myself laughing hysterically. I found it very funny. I may not think it funny when the machine on the wall eats up all my saved coins.
I am off to bed early tonight as I have been waking up several times during the night trying not to fall out of my bed. The width of my bed is approximately the width of me. I might just have to create a serendipitous moment and think only of a big bed...and one day it'll be in the foyer waiting for me to move it in.
Buona notte and see you again soon.
