After several attempts to cut and paste what I had written before had failed it was obvious that my test was truly in patience. I had tried everything. What was disconcerting was that the free wifi bar did not seem to work for me today. My mac was not picking up a thing. So back to the apartment and off to the local internet/phone shop. Oh my goodness I finally found a flipping phone. It was down the street all along. Silly me I was looking for the box on the corner. Before I visited this spot I picked up a quick pasta and spinach and a few things at the local supermarket and then with a bit of red wine devoured my lunch and off I go again just enough time to give my feet a rest and take a bathroom break. Back to the internet place again. This time acquainted myself with the fellow who works there named Assin. Not sure of the spelling but he was impressed that I had moved here. He assured me I would see him tomorrow. Okay I know what you are thinking…not. I was determined to find a phone to buy. I set out yet again on the cobble streets of Firenze. After walking in circles for about an hour and it was about 7pm I stopped to pull out my map. I have been trying so hard not to play tourist. So hard but could not help it. I felt like a gerbil trying to get of that darn wheel. As I looked up there was a MAC store. It was a miracle…or at least good focus because I could not stop thinking about the bent prong and whether my computer would fry with the setup I had conjured up to recharge my computer. I went in and of course the one little piece I needed they were out of. What I discovered after I bought the big set for 89 euros was that the power thing I had was adaptable and if I just slid it instead of pulled it I could have put the two pronger in the adapter. So as I sit here debating whether to return it….I may opt to have two chargers. I definitely will be back to Europe again. The only thing is that the big thick cord has two prongs that don’t fit any of my plug outlets. I know this is a test of patience for me. By the end of this adventure I will have the best patience ever.
Just for fun I think I will go back to the apple store and bug them. Let’s see if the return policy is the same here as it is in Canada. I am laughing hysterically now just at the thought of the look on the only guy in the store who speak English when I tell him I want to give it back. Back to food. The pizza here is delicious. Absolutely delish. I bought a cheaper bottle of wine tonight, however am too tired to open it. I found a body shop somewhere near the Duomo and bought some shower gel in hopes that it will bubble in a bath. The name of the first purchased bottle of vino rossi was Avignonesi and it says Rosso di Montepulciano. Quite good actually. No year on it so they could have made it yesterday.
I am still on a mission to figure out the blog. I was not able to copy text to it…and if I have to retype all of my notes I will have to. My friends are counting on me sharing the adventure. I am beginning to familiarize myself with the streets as I go around and around in circles. I have figured out that once I see the Duomo … head there as it is considered the center. The interesting thing is that although I walked miles today and probably lost five pounds I did not see the river. Tomorrow I will find the river. They have the best gelato there and I think I am ready for some. I haven’t eaten in a restaurant yet. Maybe tomorrow if I find one that sounds good. It is always great to dine with someone so this is a new and interesting experience that I haven’t had in some time.
One thing I learned today was to curb my frustration. It will all come naturally, I just have to be patient. The Apple store revelation is a prime example of how things manifest with a single thought. Today was a great day. I was standing on the corner of some street God knows what and these two gorgeous gay men came up to me and asked if they could help. English oh my goodness they spoke English…I have been struggling since I got here with limited English speaking Italians. They were from Virginia and this was their last day. I told them I have just moved here and am memorizing the streets. They told me that with their experience no one Italian speaking would stop to help and they found it was the foreigners who were enquisitive and excited about sharing what they knew. They were so cute. Anyhow it gave me an idea. For the next week I am going to pull out my map occasionally and take a survey as to how many people would stop to talk to me. God I hope they are gorgeous, single and ready to roll. That sent me into peels of laughter. But remember …. Your thoughts matter…look at my experience with the Apple Store. Stay tuned my friends more fun to come. Till we meet again. Buona sera.
