Time to Celebrate!!!

Well I think you will be proud of me....actually I am very proud of myself.  I completed the permesso di siogiornno all by myself...all those years helping families fill out forms paid off.  I needed to use a five inch thick dictionary which thank goodness was in my apartment.  It took me the good part of yesterday afternoon.  Today I left school early to run to the post office to buy my health insurance (98 euros for the year).  My teacher lent me the copy of his receipt and I just copied it with my information.  Once I had that I went to the Tabacchi place and purchased the Marca di Bollo stamp for 14.74 euros....an afternoon of life drawing then off to the main post office.  I had amazed myself because I did it all in Italian.  At the post office I gave the clerk my envelope...she mumbled something which I totally understood...she said that when I go to the police dept. for my appointment (this is where they fingerprint you...I think that is so funny) I must take my original documents as the ones I gave her were copies.  No problem I said in Italian...then she told me how much (60.50) euros and that the date to appear at the Questera...police dept..is Feb 17 at 9am....shoot ... that is the day I leave for Canada...coming home for another course so will be back for 10 days...will only be in Toronto for one day...enough time to buy some things I am missing here...like a shower curtain.  So my friends...when you focus and try your best...you see results.  I had procrastinated for so long to get that application in because I listened to too many people and their horror stories.  What is interesting is that most of the students here apply for this residency card and by the time the government gets around to processing them...the student has graduated and happily home in their originating country.  Go figure.
So when I heard that I did not feel as pressured to get it in .. but am happy now that it is done.  All I have to do now is find the police station and rebook the date.  Wish me luck.  Bona sera mi amici.  Till we meet again.
